Holiday Merchandising 2015 Tips Just for You!

The holiday season is upon us. Get a move-on on your holiday merchandising; it’s not too late to build your holiday display(s)!

To boost holiday sales, merchandise your product in a way that will resonate with your customers. Stacking and placing items on tabletops or counters won’t help sell inventory at a rate that will get you to break even this season. But merchandising your products to attract examining eyes will not only help you gain customer attention but it will also encourage buyers to make a purchase.

Here are some ideas to get you inspired for the holidays!

For instance, laying merchandise flat on a tabletop is not as effective as displaying those products in a three-dimensional display. And keeping merchandise on the same level next to each other does not incite customers to scan what else you have available for sale.

Consider using riser sets or stairs to merchandise your holiday goods in a fashion that will encourage customers to look at everything on your table, from top to bottom.

Dressing up your dress forms and/or mannequins not only brings out the holiday spirit, but it also enlivens your display and narrates a story thatĀ invites customers to pay particular attention to select products that could make the perfect gift for a special someone.

Remember, when you use visual merchandising as a tool to separate yourself from an inundated market you help maximize your sales. The purpose of creating a display for your merchandise is to attract, engage and provoke your customers towards buying something.

To enhance your displaying abilities, you can always add a little holiday decoration to accommodate the season and what you are selling (or promoting). A little holly, fake snow or garland or ribbon, can play a pivotal role in your sale and make the customer feel the holiday spirit (or at least warm and fuzzy inside). Holiday merchandising should be fun, welcoming and most of all, marketable.

Now that family’s gone and you’re sitting in front of a computer (or something of similar nature, like a smart phone or tablet), you can surf the internet and enjoy all of the madness that is known to be “Cyber Monday.”

By now hundreds of online stores are running a multitude of discounts, but buyer beware that some of these specials are not worth paying any attention to, let alone act upon. Though we do not sell retail goods, we are still interested in the our customers’ purchasing decisions and needs. We also want all of you guys to avoid an irritable phone call to the credit card company about an impulse purchase made in poor judgment.

Yeah, it’s Cyber Monday but that doesn’t mean you should experience buyer’s remorse the day after. So take it from us, a company known to assist in merchandising, shop smart and sort through the mayhem and buy only what you want and truly need.

Here’s a few easy-to-follow tips on how to get your store fall ready!

Make Your Merchandising Speak to Customers

Take advantage of signage that features shopping tips, promotions or anything that will help remind customers that it’s time to get ready for the cold weather.

Clean Up Your Sales Floor

To attract attention to your retail store, make sure your sales floor (or showroom) is free of clutter and well organized. This will help you attract customers who are likely to buy your merchandise. Also, don’t forget to rotate stock, fill in sparse fixtures where product looks a little light and redo displays from time to time so that your selling space looks fresh and new.

Emphasize Specials

If your store offers special services, products or discounts, make sure to promote this with smart in-store advertising. If it’s a service, be sure to have associates mention the special to all customers. Word of mouth, even in a store, is priceless! If it’s a product, reserve a spot in your retail store specifically highlighting the special item, and ensure proper signage so customers can comprehend the special. If it’s a discount, print little flyers or postcards your staff can hand out to customers. You can even place the flyers on fixtures so customers can grab them on their own.

Dress Up Your Displays

Merchandising your display to its fullest potential is an effective way to promote your retail store or any in-store promotions. Encourage fall sales by strategically placing items to catch customers’ attention to help remind them of the season and what they need (be it a jacket, a new pair of shoes, cologne, etc.) or could need for the following months to come.

Example 1: Hang scarves on the ends of your racks or style them on outfits hanging on face-outs.
Example 2: Display snow chains on a tire instead of keeping them boxed and stacked.
Example 3: Dress up a mannequin with a knitted beanie to endorse cold weather accessories.

Whatever you are selling, whatever the size retail store you have, merchandise to the best of your ability and spark fall sales. Fall is the season where consumers experience shopping fever. Have a plan and strategy to execute what will work best for your retail shop. Stay competitive and have fun merchandising!
